Dead Trend
Dead Trend is a metafictional band inspired by Mike's novel Hidden Wheel and love of 80's hardcore.
Jay Grant (vox), Mike Powers (gtr) and Tim Berrigan (bass) joined forces with Mike (drums/songs) in the summer of 2011 and played shows, first in conjunction with the release of Hidden Wheel, and then just for fun. Their songs took place 25 years in the past, railing against Reagan-era policies and issues. At first, we thought it would be a good idea to pretend the band was actually there Back In The Day, but the schtick took too much energy/effort.
Dead Trend's music is most easily found on Bandcamp. Their song 'Poolhouse Invasion' is on In Pleasant Company: A Tribute To Jason Noble, and a few copies of their CD False Positive are still available through Jon Solomon's PRF Distro.
Despite playing once every three-four months (if that), they've shared the stage with Mike Watt, J. Mascis, Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Brick Mower and Coastwest Unrest.
Jay has moved to Richmond, and Tim and Powers are in Brooklyn, so the band pulled a Fugazi/Sleater-Kinney and were on indefinite hiatus. Until, that is, the current administration started.
